(April 18, 2017) The Television Academy today announced the decision on category eligibility for Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. The show will enter the 69th Emmy Awards competition as a limited series.
A limited series is defined as a program with two (2) or more episodes with a total running time of at least 150 program minutes that tells a complete, non-recurring story, and does not have an on-going storyline and/or main characters in subsequent seasons.
The producers of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life petitioned the Academy to have the multipart program considered for an award as a limited series; the Academy's industry panel found the series to be eligible for placement in this category.
A two-thirds vote from the nine-member panel, which includes five industry leaders appointed by the Academy Chairman and four appointees by the Board of Governors, was required to approve the petition.
Nominations for the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards will be announced live at Emmys.com/nominations on Thursday, July 13.
